Bridging the Digital Divide: Our Journey in Rural Computer Literacy
In today’s digital age, computer literacy is no longer a luxury – it’s a necessity. Yet, for many in rural Uttarakhand, computers remain an enigma. At JKSS, we’re working to change this narrative.
Our computer literacy program has been an eye-opening journey. We’ve seen elderly farmers learn to video call their grandchildren and young students discover a world of online learning. But it hasn’t been without challenges. Unreliable electricity and limited internet connectivity often test our resolve.
However, the enthusiasm of our learners keeps us going. Take Ramesh, a 16-year-old who cycled 10 km every day to attend our classes. Today, he helps his father manage farm accounts using spreadsheets.
As we reflect on our progress, we’re reminded that every new email sent or website browsed is a step towards digital empowerment. We’re not just teaching computer skills; we’re opening doors to new opportunities and connecting rural Uttarakhand to the global village.
